PowerMac overhaul with GeForce3

Apple has overhauled the PowerMac range unveiled just last month, introducing a new dual processor model, a 'Special Offer' model and, as a built-to-order option, the new GeForce3 graphics card. The range has also been rebranded and now comprises six models; the GeForce3 card can be added at a cost of ?240 (?310 for the 466MHz model). Chinese crackdown on Internet porn

China has warned that it is to crack down on Internet porn. The Chinese news agency Xinhua says that those caught pushing pornographic images either through the Internet, mobile phones or phone sex face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. Popular commercial websites which have been clicked over 250,000 times face the severest penalties although the Supreme People's court warned that producers of non-profit websites which contain indecent material will also be targeted. ...more

LaCie announces faster back-ups

LaCie has announced a new AIT tape drive capable of backing-up or archiving 200Gb of compressed data onto one tape. The AIT3 drives have twice the capacity of existing AIT2 drives and double the transfer rate, reaching a maximum of 24Mb per second. The drives are back-compatible with AIT1 and AIT2 media, so no existing back-ups will be redundant. ...more
