Samsung launches 10-chip MCP

Samsung, the world's biggest manufacturer and developer of memory products has announced a new 'multi chip package' MCP that can hold ten memory chips in a single unit. The 10-chip MCP is created out of two 4-gigabyte NAND flash memory chips, four 512-megabyte dynamic random access memory chips and four 256-megabyte NOR flash memory chips. Xbox speed may rise to 1GHz

Microsoft has changed its plans for the Xbox console, and intends to boost its speed. The company had originally specified that the machine would contain a 600MHz Pentium III processor, but has now changed tack and is going for a 733MHz version. AMD advances into Mexico with its 50x15 initiative

AMD is advancing with its 50x15 initiative, to bring affordable Internet access for 50 percent of the world's population by the year 2015. It has announced a deal with Telmex, a Mexican telco, to supply Personal Internet Communicator (PIC) devices across Mexico. Wal-Mart fears Apple movie service

US retail giant Wal-Mart wants Hollywood to cut DVD wholesale prices so that it can better compete with Apple, once the computer company begins selling movies through its iTunes Music Store. BusinessWeek reports that the man responsible for DVD ordering at Wal-Mart, David Porter, has been visiting studio executives asking for a reduction of the $17 that each disc costs. Wal-Mart accounts for around 40 per cent of the DVDs sold in the US, giving it considerable clout, although any cut in the wholesale price would hit Hollywood revenues at a time when DVD sales are already in decline. ...more
