BT warms to Wi-Fi hot spots for VoIP mobile calls

BT is developing a mobile phone that will provide cheap Web-based phone calls from Wi-Fi hot spots anywhere in the world. Like Swedish company Perfect Communications' Phonette WiPhone - introduced last month - BT's phone will combine WiFi with VoIP technology and is a major threat to established mobile operators, not least because, at home, the phone will connect to BTs fixed line network.
