All quiet on the Microsoft patch front

In Microsoft's advance notification for March's 'Patch Tuesday', it reveals there will be no patches to fix outstanding vulnerabilities in Microsoft products. The company did announce, however, that it is planning to release an updated version of its malicious software removal tool as well as two non-security high-priority updates for Windows Update (WU) and Software Update Services (SUS). Hatto husband admits music CD hoax

The husband of late pianist Joyce Hatto has confessed to passing off other classical recording as her work. In a letter to the BIS record label, William Barrington-Coupe admitted to the fraud, which was uncovered after listeners inserted her CDs into a computer, only to get track information from the Internet for another artist altogether. 'It is self-evident that I have acted stupidly, dishonestly and unlawfully,' Barrington-Coupe wrote. ...more

Palm eyes Linux future?

As rumours go it is among the more speculative: PDA- and smartphone-maker Palm is developing its own Linux-based operating system as an alternative to Palmsource's Palm OS and Microsoft's Windows Mobile. According to Software Everywhere, Palm has been investigating the possibility of developing a version of Linux to run on its devices since 2004. More recently it has been hiring Linux software engineers who will be responsible for the 'design and development of components of a new software platform'. ...more

Apple iPod Eminem advert hit by copy-cat claims

A US footwear manufacturer has asked Apple to withdraw its latest iPod television advertisement featuring Eminem. Lugz alleges that the advert bears a striking resemblance to its 2002 ad that similarly featured black silhouettes on a red, orange and yellow background with a hip hop soundtrack. AdWeek reports that Lugz has issued a cease and desist order to Apple and its advertising agency TBWA\Chiat\Day. ...more
