X-rays via the Internet Guys and St Thomas's Hospital in London have introduced a system whereby consultants can access X-rays and other health images over the Internet. The system, developed by Kodak, means that consultants on call can make diagnoses from home or other remote locations, and expert opinions can be sought from consultants across the globe instantly. The records will only be accessible through a secure intranet site and the system is already improving efficiency and reducing stress for both clinicians and patients. ...more UPDATED: BT sets stage for broadband price cuts BT has begun a significant overhaul of its broadband pricing structure which should result in more competition, lower prices and a wider variety of services. The telco is planning to cut the cost of Local Loop Unbundling by up to 70 per cent, whilst realigning the costs for its Datastream and IPStream broadband services. As well as enabling ISPs to increase the number of different ADSL packages they offer - in terms of bandwidth, contention ratios and maximum traffic capacity - it will create scope for price cuts, most notably at faster speeds. ...more ICANN and VeriSign sued by domain name registrants The World Association of Domain Name Developers, an association of domain name registrants, is suing the Internet regulatory body ICANN and US domain name registry VeriSign. The suit alleges that a recently signed deal between the two organisations is anti-competitive and violates US anti-trust legislation. Last month ICANN and Verisign settled their differences over a long running dispute and agreed to drop the pending lawsuits against each other. ...more Northern broadband users blacked out over weekend More than half a million broadband users in the North and West of England lost their connections over the weekend, following an equipment failure in the Manchester area. The failure brought down a section of BT's national broadband network backbone.
