Microsoft could take Windows from Korea on antitrust move

Microsoft has threatened to withdraw Windows from South Korea if the country's antitrust agency forces the company to remove its Instant Messenger and Media Player from the operating system. South Korea's Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) has been investigating Microsoft over allegations that the company has breached antitrust laws by offering the services as built-in components of Windows, according to Reuters. Shares in PDA maker palmOne reached $40 last week, little more than a year after the price plunged so low that Palm faced being delisted from the Nasdaq stock exchange. palmOne, which was formed late last year following the splitting of the original Palm into its hardware and software components, owes its recent success to the June 2003 acquisition of rival Palm OS licensee Handspring and its Treo line of smart phones. David Bowie and eBay starred on Tuesday alongside photo-sharing website Flickr and a blog of cute animals as winners of the Webby Awards, the leading international honour for Web content. Winners of the 11th annual Webbys, dubbed 'the Oscars of the Internet,' were chosen from a record 8,000 entries from 60 countries by 400,000 public votes and a panel of 80 Web experts to recognise excellence in about 100 different categories. Fourteen further exchanges have got the green light for ADSL upgrades, the latest successes of BTs broadband registration scheme. The following exchanges will bring the total for May to 34, joining the 20 whose ready-for-service dates were announced in February.
