Adobe acquires image management technology

Adobe has acquired digital photography management specialist Fotiva in an attempt to satisfy perceived high consumer demand for image management systems for organising and sharing digital photography. Adobe aims to combine Fotiva's focus on 'end-to-end' solutions with its own expertise in digital imaging and manipulation, layout and ePaper in order to improve on what it calls, 'Web-centric solutions and hobbyist orientated software.' Analyst Alexis Gerard of Future Image said that by simplifying the process of managing photos, emailing and printing them and sharing them on the Web, 'Adobe is in a position to simplify and improve consumers' digital photography experiences, develop new imaging technologies that will foster the growth of the imaging market and, ultimately, benefit all users. ...more

LineOne drops half its value

BT and United Business Media's LineOne has lost more than half its value since it was put up for sale last year. Originally on sale for ?250m, the ISP is now set to fetch no more than ?80-100m, and still without generating much interest, making it easy prey for the likes of Tiscali SpA, which has been snapping up European ISPs over the last year, including World Online. The big news story of the day is the unveiling of XP, and the big players of the industry are keen to take their place alongside Microsoft and its new OS. AMD, for example, is so keen to be associated with the new release, it has adopted the name for its latest Athlon (in its case, of course, XP stands for eXtreme Performance not eXPerience, but we get the message).
