Outlines of IBM Lenovo deal emerge

IBM is set to take a stake of more than five per cent in Chinese manufacturer Lenovo as well as receive a cash payment of around $1.5 billion for its PC Division according to the Financial Times today. It is understood the Lenovo would not only buy the development and distribution of the 'Think' range of desktops and notebooks - actual manufacture is already generally outsourced - but crucially also the brand name 'Think' itself along with the right to put the IBM brand on the machines. ...more

Government issues 3rd annual report on Freedom of Information

The newly-created Department for Constitutional Affairs (DCA) (formerly the Department for Freedom of Information) has published its 3rd Annual Progress Report on the introduction of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. The document details progress towards full implementation of the Act, which is due in January 2005. Anti-Spam Alliance extends legal action against spammers

More anti-spam suits have been filed under the US federal CAN-SPAM law by Microsoft and the Anti-Spam Alliance. The announcement of three new lawsuits was made in conjunction with the ISPs America Online, EarthLink and Yahoo! also filing actions against alleged spammers.
