Apple rivals claim iTunes is doomed

Two of the main rivals to Apple's ongoing dominance of the music downloads market believe that the iTunes model, where users pay $1 per song, has no future. Both Napster and Yahoo! are staking their futures on subscription models, where customers pay a fixed fee each month for the right to stream, but not download, an unlimited number of songs. InDesign plug-ins mark the end for PageMaker

Adobe is to discontinue development of its PageMaker page layout software by offering existing users an upgrade path via new plug-ins for InDesign. The decision will mean the end for the software which was originally developed by the now-defunct Aldus and was central to the desktop publishing revolution of the 1980s. 'Green Shift' taskforce aims to cut IT carbon emissions

The government has set up a taskforce to cut CO2 emissions from IT equipment. IT kit is estimated to generate 35 million tonnes of the 'greenhouse gas' each year. The 'Green Shift' taskforce will be led by Manchester City Council and will oversee the introduction of 'green PCs' that use 98 per cent less energy than standard computers. ...more
