BT to compensate for Manchester fire

BT will compensate homes and businesses that lost phone and Internet services after the fire in Manchester last March. The fire affected some 130,000 phone lines and BT said in a statement today: 'The initial findings indicate it started as a result of damage to electrical equipment. BT believes that during the course of work being undertaken in the tunnel before the fire, electrical fittings were damaged and this damage may have caused the fire. ...more

Google is letting advertisers tweak their AdWord campaigns so they can run only at key times when they expect the greatest interest. The search giant has introduced what it calls ad scheduling, and advertisers can time their campaigns to run based on the time of day or day of the week. Sweden emerges top of the table for the latest survey of IT-aware countries. The Information Society Index study - carried out last week by the analysts International Data Corporation (IDC) - ranks countries by their infrastructure for information technology.
