Apple's two UK shops in London and Birmingham are hosting Apple Camps for children over the summer holidays. Each camp provides an opportunity for children and their families to participate in activities including hands-on learning, and 'doing cool stuff on Macs'. Adobe has unveiled a new version of After Effects, its motion graphics and visual effects software for digital video. The release includes a new text engine described by Adobe as 'revolutionary'. AMD trumpets Torrenza partners

Sun, Cray, Fujitsu Siemens, HP, Dell and IBM have lined up behind AMD's Torrenza Initiative, which allows third-parties to share silicon with AMD server processors. Described by AMD as a 'game-changing approach to server design', it allows such OEMs to plug-in co-processors into the AMD64 ecosystem using HyperTransport technology. Almost half SMEs are virus lazy

Survey shows 42 per cent of SMEs don't update virus protection more often than weekly. A survey from Sophos reveals that 42 per cent of SME businesses and nearly a third of large businesses leave themselves open to attack by failing to update antivirus software more regularly than once a week. The survey, in which Sophos polled 4,500 administrators from companies of all sizes from across the globe, reveals that with 150 new viruses detected - some of them spreading in minutes - companies are leaving themselves unnecessarily vulnerable to attack. ...more
