Sunday is the new Monday for Internet traffic

Sundays are now the most popular day for hanging out on the Internet, according to the latest figures from the Amsterdam Internet Exchange. The heaviest Net traffic used to be seen on Monday, but this year people are surfing more often and for longer a day earlier. The last couple of weeks saw peaks in Internet traffic of over 140Gbps on Sunday compared to between 50 and 60Gbps in 2005. ...more

Nvidia settles Microsoft Xbox dispute

Microsoft and Nvidia have settled their dispute over costs and pricing for the Xbox. The heart of the dispute involved the pricing of components within the Xbox, with Microsoft being keen to drive costs down to make its console more competitive but Nvidia being squeezed on its margins. Specifically, Microsoft's pricing for Xbox GPU (graphics) and MCP (audio and networking) chipsets led both companies to enter an arbitration process. ...more

Mobile handsets are a load of tosh

Toshiba is to start manufacturing mobile handsets for the European market. Alan Thompson, Managing Director for Toshiba Information Systems, said at a press event today that starting a mobile phone company in Europe would fill a gap, as Toshiba already make handsets in the US, Japan and the Pacific basin. Carphone Warehouse to buy AOL UK Net business

Carphone Warehouse has announced that it is to acquire AOL's UK Internet access business for ?370 million. Under the agreement, Carphone Warehouse will acquire AOL's Internet access customer base in the UK as well as the supporting management and infrastructure. AOL will continue to provide its portal - co-branded with Carphone Warehouse - and will manage the online advertising sales through a revenue-sharing agreement. ...more
