Toshiba is to start manufacturing mobile handsets for the European market. Alan Thompson, Managing Director for Toshiba Information Systems, said at a press event today that starting a mobile phone company in Europe would fill a gap, as Toshiba already make handsets in the US, Japan and the Pacific basin. Carphone Warehouse has announced that it is to acquire AOL's UK Internet access business for ?370 million. Under the agreement, Carphone Warehouse will acquire AOL's Internet access customer base in the UK as well as the supporting management and infrastructure.
