Removable hard disks from Iomega Iomega has announced the Peerless drive system, a removable hard drive system for Windows and Mac OS. The system comprises 5, 10 and 20Gb hard disks of about the same size as a PDA and a base station only slightly larger than the disks themselves, which deliver transfer rates in the region of 15Mb/sec via FireWire. The Peerless disks have integrated read/write heads, eliminating the possibility of dust contamination, but the hard drive electronics are located in the base station keeping the cost of the disks much lower than would otherwise have been the case. ...more UPDATE: Warranties being honoured at struggling Elonex Deloitte and Touche, the appointed administrator, has told us that existing warranties are being honoured during the period of the administration and businesses is continuing as usual at troubled Elonex. Neville Kahn of Deloitte and Touche said: 'We are hopeful that we will be able to conclude a sale of the business as a going concern.' Some 28 of the 76 staff employed by UK systems vendor Elonex are to be made redundant after the company went into administration on Monday. ...more ISPs dumping 'raw sewage' on Net users ISPs are 'pumping out raw sewage' and not protecting vulnerable users according to MessageLabs Internet service providers (ISPs) must take more responsibility when it comes to protecting users from security threats. So says Mark Sunner, chief technology officer at filtering specialist Message Labs, who believes that although users need to be security-savvy, ISPs must also step up their game. The W3C Patent Policy working group (PPWG) is proposing the adoption of a Royalty Free (RF)-only policy, for the work in generating future Internet standards.
