Nvidia boosts video playback with PureVideo technology

Nvidia has added PureVideo technology to its GeForce 6 Series of GPUs (graphics processing units). A mixture of hardware and software, it supports playback of MPEG-2 and high-definition (HD) video content on a PC. As predicted, Intel has begun to ship its first desktop Pentium chips featuring dual cores. The company's announcement scoops a similar announcement that is expected to be made by its arch rival AMD next week. Overclocked PCs blamed for Windows crashes

The practice of overclocking PCs has been blamed for an unusually high number of reported Windows crashes. Raymond Chen, a Microsoft Windows developer, has revealed that Microsoft received a series of crash reports containing errors which, he said, 'made no sense whatsoever'. Investigations eventually found that the computers in question has been overclocked, either with the user's knowledge or, in some cases, by the shop that sold them. ...more

UPDATE: VeriSign hit with customer-stealing lawsuit

BulkRegister has won a temporary restraining order upon VeriSign for its dubious marketing practices, which it believes to be ongoing. BulkRegister filed a lawsuit against VeriSign yesterday, alleging the company attempted to trick domain owners to switch their accounts. The suit is for an undisclosed sum, dependent on the amount of damage found to have been done to BulkRegister's business. ...more
