A survey of IT experts reveals that many believe future cyber attacks will target not only individual systems and the information held on them but also the Internet itself. The Pew Internet and American Life Project polled 1,286 experts on what they believe the future of life online will be over the next 10 years. Two-thirds agreed that as the Internet becomes the main infrastructure supporting communications and business, 'at least one devastating attack will occur in the next 10 years on the networked information infrastructure or the country's power grid. ...more

Sony lines up the Cyber-shot T30

Sony has unveiled the Cybershot T30, its slim, high-spec digicam. Like the Cybershot T9, the T30 also has a combination of the Super Steadyshot and High Sensitivity collectively known as Double 'Anti-blur' technology. Movie industry attacks high speed film swapping

The US record and movie industries have stepped up their campaign against illegal file sharers by targeting users of Internet2, the high-speed, next generation version of the Internet used largely by academic institutions. Internet2 users in US colleges developed an application called i2hub which can swap songs in less than 20 seconds, movies in five minutes. According to the president of the Motion Picture Association of America, Dan Glickman, there were around 7,000 users on Monday, one of whom was sharing 328 films. ...more

Users of Sun's Java Desktop have a new place to turn to for help and advice and more software: the JDSHelp Community Site. Founded by Sam Hiser and Tom Adelstein, the site provides a one-stop-shop of help and resources to new users - and may appeal in particular to small businesses that don't want to lay out for support contracts as well as the software. The site was started on the basis of offering the extra software that is included with other Linux-based operating systems and which experienced Linux users trying out JDS may have expected to see. ...more
