Microsoft has issued a security advisory over a flaw discovered in Remote Desktop Services, a component of Windows found in versions of Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows 2000. The vulnerability, described in advisory number 904797, could enable a limited denial of service attack - it can be exploited to cause the Windows system to crash via a specially crafted RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) request. Dubai hacker faces huge compensation charge

Lee Ashurst, a 22-year-old Briton living in Dubai, is facing a claim of over ?600,000 for hacking into the United Arab Emirates' only Internet Service Provider (Etisalat), causing it to crash. The country, which was trying to model itself as the Internet hub of the Middle East, actually had no laws against hacking. Yahoo! to launch desktop search in the New Year

Internet portal Yahoo! says it will release a desktop search in the New Year some three months after Google. Desktop search is the latest battleground between the major search engines as they seek to gain and retain customer loyalty as search itself increasingly becomes commoditised.
