BT to cut wholesale broadband prices

BT has announced that it plans to reduce its wholesale broadband prices in order to give Internet service providers a cost-effective alternative to local loop unbundling. UPDATED: FBI raids peer-to-peer Underground Network

The FBI has raided the homes of people suspected of sharing vast amounts of copyrighted material via peer to peer networks. The raids on five homes and one ISP are said to be part of an organised network of people who had to able to offer at least 1GB worth of files to take part. The raids on the group, said to be called 'The Underground Network', took place in Texas, New York and Winsconsin and are part of a continuing crackdown on copyright piracy by the US law enforcement agencies. ...more

Missing M&S laptop poses ID theft risk to staff

Following the theft of a laptop containing salary details, addresses, dates of birth, and National Insurance and phone numbers of staff, Marks and Spencers has written to 26,000 employees telling them they may be at risk of identity fraud. The news comes just days after we reported a laptop stolen from a hospital in Cornwall. The retailer warned workers they were at risk if criminals accessed and used the data on the laptop, which was stolen from a printing firm on 18 April. ...more
