Lawyers reject Microsoft deal

Californian lawyers have rejected Microsoft's proposed $1 billion settlement over allegations that it overcharged for its software. Last week we reported that lawyers representing plaintiffs in more than 100 class action lawsuits had reached an agreement with Microsoft which would involve the software giant donating around $1 billion for computers and software to the poorest schools in the US. The Feds bust international phishing gangs

The FBI has busted an international phishing gang with arrests of a number of members. Members located in the USA, Poland and Romania engaged in phishing to obtain confidential information. They also bought credit card information swiped off of the magnetic strips of credit and debit cards in order to create counterfeits, and traded social security numbers and personal information through online 'carder' forums. ...more

IBM announces Desktop Management Services

IBM has announced its new Desktop Management Services, aimed at small and medium-sized businesses. This is designed to be a way for companies to buy a pre-packaged pay-per-seat service, which covers PCs and their maintenance services. AMD takes the heat out of the Opteron

The AMD Opteron chip, principally aimed at high performance workstations and servers, is to get power management tools built in. AMD says the addition of the company's PowerNow! technology - currently used in its notebook offerings - is to allow for cooler running of blade servers and other high density environments where heat is an issue.
