NTL and 02 seek mobile TV audience

Cable TV network NTL and mobile phone network operator mmO2 are to trial a television service delivered to mobile phones. Next spring, 500 O2 customers around Oxford will be given multimedia phones capable of receiving 16 TV channels. Microsoft claims fundamental weaknesses revealed in the EC's legal case

Microsoft set out its stall in the second day of hearings of its appeal against provisions of the EC antitrust ruling. Having paid out a record €497mn in fines, Redmond is now setting about ensuring that it will not have to provide a version of Windows without components such as Media Player so that computer makers can use rival players instead. Samsung to launch MIMO-equipped notebook

Korean electronics giant Samsung has announced that it plans to release a new range of notebooks equipped with MIMO technology based on technology from Airgo Networks. MIMO or Multi Input Multi Output refers to a system involving multiple antennas on a system on both the transmitter and the receiver side. Was Microsoft attacked by the QAZ trojan?

Hacker software known as the QAZ trojan was apparently used to get access to the Microsoft corporate network. The Wall Street Journal, in a report by Ted Bridis and Rebecca Buckman, is quoting a source "familiar with the case", and has provided a very detailed scenario of how Microsoft could have been infected. The trojan horse QAZ software, probably installed inadvertently from email, would disguise itself as an innocent program such as Notepad or a screen saver. ...more

Microsoft plans iPod-busting Christmas

Microsoft will release its 'iPod and iTunes killer' before Christmas, according to Reuters' sources. The news agency reports record companies will receive prototypes to test in the coming weeks.
