There's a developer release from Sun, for the Palm platform, of Java 2 (the Micro Edition, J2ME) and the Mobile Information Device (MID) profile. Sun and Palm are also collaborating to define a programming interface specifically for Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs). DoJ anti-trust settlement with Microsoft makes progress

The US Department of Justice says it is finally making progress over the long running anti-trust case against Microsoft. There had been concerns that the software giant was continuing to spin out its compliance with the settlement it reached with the Federal Government in 2002. The issue had been brought to a head in October last year when a judge rapped Microsoft in moving too slowly towards compliance. ...more

Pioneer, Sigma Designs to develop Blu-ray player for 2006

Pioneer is joining forces with Sigma Designs to develop a Blu-ray player for release in the first half of 2006. Russ Johnston, senior VP of marketing and product planning for the home entertainment division of Pioneer Electronics (USA) said that the Sigma will provide a system-on-chip that will enable Pioneer to focus on software development. 'Pioneer intends to be the first company to offer a high-quality, Blu-ray DVD player that contains all the key features expected from a consumer product under our brand name,' he said. ...more
