PayPal launches in the UK

Online payment service PayPal has made its European debut in the UK, and plans to rollout across the rest of the continent. Recently acquired by the eBay Internet auctions giant, PayPal allows any individual or organisation to make and receive credit card payments to and from any individual in 38 countries worldwide; the only proviso being that both parties have valid email addresses. The company insists that it provides the highest possible level of transaction security, and provides both buyers and sellers with several means of redress should one or other prove dishonest. ...more

Apple recalls iBook, PowerBook batteries

The recall covers batteries supplied with 12in iBook G4 laptops, and 12in and 15in PowerBook G4s. Owners of affected models will receive a free replacement. Affected computers have batteries with model numbers A1061, A1078, and A1079 and serial numbers that begin with HQ441 to HQ507 and 3X446 to 3X510. ...more

Nokia stock rises on Cisco links

Nokia shares were up sharply this morning after a UK newspaper suggested that the phone maker is being eyed by Cisco. Sunday Business claimed that the network and communications hardware giant is on the lookout for a wireless infrastructure company, with the Finnish outfit identified as the most likely target. The paper said that Cisco, faced with the increasing convergence of fixed line and wireless services, needs technology to create intelligent wireless applications, technology that Nokia could provide. ...more
