BT plugs SDSL into 150 exchanges

BT has announced that following successful trials SDSL broadband services will be available at 150 exchanges in Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffiled, York, Birmingham and 'key locations' throughout Scotland. SDSL provide equal bandwidth both up- and downstream and is aimed squarely at business customers, as the prices reflect: ?170 per month for 512Kbit/sec, ?230 for 1Mbps and ?345 for 2Mbps. Mac users will have more choice of compatible handhelds if a synchronisation product planned for Microsoft Pocket PC devices comes to fruition. The device, called PocketMac, is being produced by Information Appliance Associates, a long-time developer of Pocket PC software. Judge slams 'cavalier' SCO

The federal Judge presiding in the case between SCO and IBM has released an order in which he reveals the extent of his frustration at SCO's continued inability to produce any hard evidence of copying. IBM had put in several attempts at having the case moved to a summary judgement - where the judge can rule on the case without a full trial. In his order, Judge Kimball granted none of these, saying that until all the facts were in front of the court, it was too early to do so. ...more

Intel 'to slash jobs'

Intel is planning to cut about 10,000 jobs or ten per cent of its workforce according to sources close to the company. The proposed cuts follow a 90-day internal review ordered by Intel chief Paul Otellini as the company attempts to address plunging profitability at the chip giant. The cuts are predicted to be particularly heavy in the marketing department as the company will attempt to ring fence the key R&D businesses. ...more
