Software vendors denounced for poor security

The SANS Institute today issued a call to arms for corporates fed up with insecure software. As the institute delivered its annual top 20 security threats list, Alan Paller, Director at SANS delivered a biting speech denouncing the software industry's lack of responsibility for security within the products they build and called on corporate customers to use their financial clout to force vendors to preconfigure applications before agreeing a purchase. British Airways is testing a system that will allow its passengers to surf the Net from the comfort of their seats. The airline wants to be the first company to offer in-flight Internet and e-mail access and, thanks to advances in telecommunications, such a system could be in place by 2002. UK processor design company Arm is boosting 3D gameplay on mobile phones. The company has announced that Sinjisoft has licensed Swerve Client technology - jointly developed by ARM and Superscape - for use in its GNEX software (a popular gaming system in Korea).
