Dutch to get digital safe

A Dutch Commission has suggested that each of its citizens should get their own personal digital safe deposit box. The Dutch Ministry of Home Office Affairs asked the Commission to look into the modernisation of the register of the population. One suggestion was that to enable the population to have 24-hour access to the register, every Dutch citizen should get a digital safe deposit box that could store around two hundred items of personal information, such as their tax details. ...more

Group pushes for privacy symbols

Leading Internet privacy company TRUSTe is to announce plans to develop a set of online symbols that would help users to understand a Web site's privacy policy. The idea is that surfers will not longer have to wade through the reams of jargon that makes up a site's privacy policy and instead will be able to see a representative symbol instead.
