BT commits to GPRS, but only for professionals

More good news for those hoping to get into GPRS: BT Cellnet has ordered 175,000 GPRS wireless handsets from US manufacturer Research in Motion. But before you get too excited, the handsets - which are mainly for emailing and paging - are for business users only. According to a press release on the Research in Motion site, BT Cellnet is purchasing RIM's BlackBerry handhelds, which look like a cross between a PDA, a calculator and a pager and connect to the PC through a docking cradle. ...more

Kaspersky speeds Anti-Virus 5.0

Kaspersky has announced version five of its antivirus software, claiming greater efficiencies and performance boosts as well as a more user-friendly environment. The Russian company has integrated new file processing technologies it calls iChecker, iStream and iCache. Sony presses play for MP3 files on Walkmans

MP3-playing Walkmans are being launched by Sony, and existing NW-series Walkmans will also have a firmware update for accommodating the de-facto Internet standard for compressed music files. As we reported back in September - Sony does u-turn for MP3 support - Sony has abandoned its position on only supporting its own ATRAC-format.
