Motorola has been awarded more than $4bn in compensation and damages from the owners of Turkey's second largest telco. US District Judge Jed Rakoff ruled yesterday that the members of the Uzan family had 'perpetrated a huge fraud,' in using funds loaned to the company for their own ends. AOL takes an OpenRide

As part of its long term goal of moving from being an ISP to a web services provider, AOL has introduced a new client which provides access to a range of AOL services while enabling users to go beyond the 'walled garden' approach that has characterised the company's offerings up until now. The new AOL clientnamed OpenRide brings together four major components - the AOL Explorer browser, an IM client, email client and a media centre providing access to radio, videos and other content. Targetted for sports use, the new Forge stands as its largest capacity flash-memory based player in the range, but this can be boosted still further with CD/MMC cards. Home Secretary John Reid is to approach Apple and Sony to join a summit to help fight crime in Britain. Reid wants manufacturers of mobile phones and MP3 players to concentrate as much on anti-crime functions as on other design features.
