Sony BDP-S1E completes Blu-ray range

Sony has unveiled its latest Blu-ray Disc player, the Europe-bound BDP-S1E. While the player provides native 1920 x 1080p (progressive) high-definition video for Blu-ray (BD) titles, it also features a 1080p video upscaling facility that purports to 'take your old movies out of the DVD-Video domain and represents them with a new lustre and character that is closer to HD resolution'. Telewest Broadband has taken moves to protect its blueyonder customers from online threats with the launch of a security software package. The ISP has responded to customer concerns over cybercrime by introducing its 'PCguard' service, which includes a firewall, anti-virus software, anti-spyware software, and a pop-up blocker to new and existing blueyonder users. NTL and AOL agree Web deal

NTL and AOL have agreed a deal whereby AOL will get be allowed to use NTL's phone network to deliver its services. Currently users with NTL phone connections can only get access to AOL's pay-as-you-go Internet service. Adobe offers plug-in for on-the-fly web editing

Adobe has released a plugin for GoLive CS2 that enables Web authors to create areas on a website that can subsequently be edited and updated by another party without having to resort to the original code. Like Macromedia's similar Contribute tool, Adobe Co-Author lets designers designate editable regions of a site. Then the co-author, the ongoing editor uses the same application to make their changes, without needing to know any HTML or more complex code. ...more

Sdbot malware sees McAfee issue its 100,000th signature file

Vincent Gullotto, VP of McAfee's AVERT virus response team, described the addition as a 'milestone', although the virus that garnered such an accolade was far from unique. Indeed, it was yet another variant of the Sdbot malware - which allows an attacker to control infected computers remotely. Gullotto said that more than 50 per cent of the additions to the McAfee database so far this year have been definitions for variants of Sdbot, Agobot and other bots. ...more
