Greenpeace ejected from MacExpo

Greenpeace was yesterday thrown out of MacExpo, after the organisers said that they had received complaints about the activities of activists for the environmental campaign group. Visitors to the show reportedly objected to the large number of activists who were leafleting at the entrance to London's Olympia exhibition centre, while companies, including Apple, are said to have been unhappy with their antics inside the venue. Flash memory iPod rumours surface again

Rumours that Apple is preparing to enter the market for MP3 players using flash memory have surfaced again. AppleInsider reports that Yasuo Morimoto, senior executive vice-president at Toshiba, told the China Daily that Toshiba will begin selling flash memory to Apple in early 2005. Introducing a flash-based iPod - 'iPod micro' perhaps - would enable Apple to compete for a share of a market that is five times as big as the hard-drive market by unit sales and double its size by revenue. ...more

MacBook Pro users are reporting that yesterday's firmware update appears to fix widely reported overheating problems. Although Apple revealed scarcely any information about the release - save that it provides a System Management Control update that fixes 'intermittent boot problems' - MBP owners have discovered that said is the specialised controller that manages thermal and power conditions and is in charge of running the portable's fans. CCTV Trojan stalking the Internet

UK security company Sophos is warning of a Trojan posing as an image of a purported rapist. The company says emails asking recipients to help identify the 'rapist' by clicking on the attachment are being spammed out with subject lines such as 'CCTV still of Rapist', 'Do you recognise this person?', or 'Campus Student Raped'. The attachment contains a copy of the Stinx-N Trojan, which will copy itself to the computer's hard drive if run. ...more
