BT has formed the Fixed-Mobile Convergence Alliance (FMCA), along with five other of the world's major telcos, with the aim of encouraging convergence of mobile and fixed-line telephone services. The aim of the group is to provide mobile and landline users with a common set of standards and services so that customers can move between the two without having to remember a different set functions.
