NTL fall foul of advertising standards

The Advertising Standards Authority has ruled that NTL cannot describe its 128Kbit/sec Internet connection service as broadband. Although the service does meet Oftel and DTI definitions of broadband, the ASA decided that 'most consumers would understand broadband to mean a service of upwards of 500Kbit/sec'. The British Library builds an everyday email archive

The The British Library has asked the UK public to forward it their emails, to help create what the library claims will be the world's first municipal email archive. British Library Curator of Socio-linguistics and Education Jonnie Robinson said that the prevalence of email as a form of correspondence led the library to decide it should capture a wide-ranging sample of this 21st century phenomenon. Microsoft kills work on Mac Windows Media Player

Microsoft's Mac Business Unit has confirmed that it has ceased development of the OS X version of Windows Media Player. The current version will remain available to download, but in future Windows Media playback on Macs will be in the hands of the Flip4Mac WMV Player, which Microsoft is distributing. The player provides codecs that provide Windows Media content support within OS X's QuickTime environment. ...more
