Toshiba puts brakes on HD DVD

Toshiba has announced that it is delaying the release of the first HD DVD players. The company, which first developed the next-generation optical storage standard, said that copy protection issues will delay the launch until early next year. NV35 likely to be Nvidia's first orders at IBM

The orders Nvidia may start placing at IBM are said to be the company's new NV35 chip, an updated version of Nvidia's current top-end GeForce FX 5800 series (NV30) chip, sources said, as Nvidia's cooperation with IBM is aimed at the latter's high-end process technology. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), Nvidia's long-time foundry partner, will continue manufacturing the larger-amount, lower-end GeForce FX 5600 (NV31) and GeForce FX 5200 (NV34) chips. The success of Apple's iTunes Music Store has prompted four of the Internet's biggest players to investigate launching their own rival services.
