Google settles click fraud suit

Google says it is close to reaching agreement to settle a dispute over alleged click fraud in its services. Retailer Lane's Gifts had led a class action against the search engine alleging that it did not do enough to eradicate fraudulent payments through AdWords. Google says it will pay out up to $90 million in legal fees and compensation in the form of credits for further advertising to companies who believe they have been affected by click fraud. ...more

YouTube geared for mobile launch next year

The video-sharing giant is building a service to allow users into the site direct from their phones and PDAs. YouTube, the popular online video sharing site, said yesterday that it hopes to launch a service for wireless devices within a year. Channel 4's Big Brother was the UK's most searched for term in June, according to Google's latest Zeitgeist figures. June's top ten is an eclectic, if somewhat predictable, selection. After Big Brother, the top search terms were Eminem, cheap flights (it had to be there somewhere), 2 Fast 2 Furious, Justin Timberlake, Harry Potter, David Beckham, Matrix Reloaded, Avril Lavigne and Wimbledon. ...more

Intel hit by patent lawsuit for $500 million

A little known Canadian company called All Computers is taking on the world's biggest chip manufacturer. The company is suing $500 million over a patent issued in 1996 known as "Apparatus and Methods for Enhancing the Performance of Personal Computers." Yesterday, a government minister warned that prices of digital radio sets must fall if manufacturers want consumers to upgrade their equipment.
