Radio 1 pushes Internet video

US rock band The Strokes will star in Radio 1's latest foray into Internet video. After the band's 'intimate' London ULU gig on 5 December has been broadcast on Lamacq Live, the video will be on the station's website for seven days. Price comparison engine Pricerunner has announced the winners of its retailer of the year awards based on nearly 6,000 reviews from customers. The awards cover Pricerunner's four most popular categories: Home Appliances, Sound and Vision, Computers and Photography. The shortlist for the Local Government IT Excellence Awards has been announced. The annual awards look to recognise the development of innovative IT solutions to deliver services in the much-maligned area of local government. BPI poised to sue AllofMP3

The BPI yesterday told MPs that it plans to sue Russian music downloads website Allofmp3.com. General counsel Roz Groome told the House of Commons Select Committee for Culture, Media & Sport inquiry into New Media and the Creative Industries that the site is illegal in the UK and that downloading music from it is illegal. ...more

HD DVD makes its cracked BitTorrent debut

An HD DVD movie has turned up on BitTorrent file sharing sites, following reports that the format's AACS copy protection technology had been hacked. Details of the link to the 1080p version of sci-fi flick Serenity on an unnamed torrent tracker were posted on HDTV Blogger after several hackers worked out how to extract the HD DVD's unique volume key. Other movies, including Batman Begins, Chronicles of Riddick, 12 Monkeys and King Kong, are also said to have been cracked. ...more
