UK leads Europe for Internet shopping

Tech-savvy Brits shop online more than any other European country, according to new figures from Intel. Intel quizzed 6,075 PC and mobile owners across Europe and found that two-thirds (77 per cent) of Brits use the Internet for buying goods other than groceries, compared to only 60 per cent of people on the continent. People living in the UK are also more likely to do the weekly food shop from home, with more than a third of us getting groceries delivered to our door through the Internet. ...more

UK games chart: Xbox launch powers Doom revival

An Xbox launch and a PC expansion pack have done the trick for Doom 3 (pictured) in this week's ELSPA UK games chart, with id Software's shoot-em-up re-entering the charts at number three. Sitting above Doom 3, however, is EA's FIFA Street - still at number one - and Ubi Soft's multi-format action game Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, which is up two to two. Mandriva brings Centrino into the Linux fold

Mandriva has launched the 2006 version of its Linux platform, claiming the 'only' Linux distro to offer official support for Intel's Centrino platform. It includes the Kat desktop search utility that searches both filenames and file contents and an interactive firewall that feeds live information on attempts to access the system. Rather than fixed rules, the firewall can adjust the level of protection depending on the status of computer. ...more
