iPod chip builder teams for wireless and 3G capabilities

PortalPlayer, the company best known for making processors for iPods, has announced two new technology partnerships. The first will enable PortalPlayer to integrate its PP5022 applications processor family with CSR's Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips to provide wireless networking support for downloading and synchronising content between portable devices and computers and to provide support for Bluetooth devices such as headsets. Microsoft interoperability info is 'unusable', says DoJ

The US Department of Justice says that documentation provided by Microsoft to allow server software developers to access desktop Windows is 'unusable', according to a report by Reuters. The documentation comes with certain Windows source code licenced by Microsoft to other vendors. Anti-trust agencies are said to be concerned that there is insufficient documentation to give non-Microsoft server software developers enough information to make their products work best with Windows. ...more

Hatto husband admits music CD hoax

The husband of late pianist Joyce Hatto has confessed to passing off other classical recording as her work. In a letter to the BIS record label, William Barrington-Coupe admitted to the fraud, which was uncovered after listeners inserted her CDs into a computer, only to get track information from the Internet for another artist altogether.
