IDF Fall 2003: Bulverde showcased as next-gen XScale processor

The successor to Intel?s XScale processor, 'Bulverde', was showcased today at the Mobile Technology keynote at IDF. Europe clinches deal on music royalties

The European Commission has given its blessing to a deal between the major record labels and the local royalty 'collecting societies'. Under the new arrangement broadcasters and Internet music download sites now only have to negotiate a single deal with one of the societies in order to gain the right to distribute songs across the EEA (European Economic Area. Under the new Central Licensing Agreement, a record company can obtain a copyright license for the combined repertoires of all the collecting societies and covering the whole of the EEA or part thereof, from any collecting society within the EEA. ...more

Spanish youth arrested as Raleka worm suspect

A 23-year-old man has been arrested by Spanish police, on suspicion of authoring the Raleka worm. Eight computers were seized from three houses in a raid on the 'AKELARRE' gang of hackers, believed to be behind the Blaster-style virus that infected more than 120,000 computers over a two-week period earlier this year. The Civil Guard arrested the gang leader, known as '900K' Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for Sophos, said: 'The Raleka arrest further illustrates that computer crime authorities around the world are better equipped than ever at hunting down the perpetrators of hacking and virus crimes. ...more

Personal data under threat from sophisticated phishing attack

Online banks - such as Abbey, Barclays, Cahoot, HSBC, Lloyds, NatWest, Nationwide, and Woolwich - are the target of a new trojan attack, according to security company Sophos. It is warning that the Tofger-BG trojan is a sophisticated phishing attack that runs in the background until a user visits a recognised banking site, at which point it can record keystrokes for sending back to remote machines. Vodafone badges the Blackberry 7100v

Mobile phone giant Vodafone has added a new Blackberry enabled model to its range. The Blackberry 7100v is 'exclusively' available through Vodafone and will be marketed throughout Europe and Australasia. The device is fitted with a colour LCD screen, quad-band radio, Bluetooth support, 32MB of Flash memory and 4MB of SRAM. ...more
