Office Communications Server goes public with first beta Microsoft has launched the first public beta of its Office Communications Server and Office Communicator 2007 client suite. The prime mover for the system is to offer a unified communications platform, adapted for technologies, such as VoIP, that responds to the context of the user. For example, presence features tell everyone on the system the availability of other users as well as the best means to contact them, and simply clicking the name of the user you want to contact will route a call to their office, mobile, voicemail, or whichever means of communication is most effective. ...more New Mozilla beta released The latest version version of the Mozilla open source Web browser is now available. Mozilla 1.4b incorporates just a few changes from its predecessor, including: the ability to specify 'blank page', 'home page' or 'last page visited' for each of first window, new window and new tab; the ability to specify default font, size and colour for HTML mail compose; and more flexible image blocking and disabling with 'view image' option to see blocked or not loaded images. ...more Top ten viruses for September 2000 Yes pop-pickers, it's time for the September rundown of computer viruses that are making life difficult for the average computer user. In the old world of business where content was king and the corporations were in control, most companies could afford to suffer the fall-out from a few disgruntled customers discussing their displeasure with friends and family, said senior analyst Rebecca Jennings. However, the pendulum of power has swung the other way and not only do consumers feel more empowered and are less likely to put up with sub-standard service, they've also got a bigger voice with which to share their feelings with the world. ...more Apple servers upgraded to dual 800s Apple's Mac OS X Server hardware configurations have been upgraded, with two dual-800MHz models added to the existing 733 option. The two new servers, effectively modified Power Mac G4s, have two 800MHz processors, each with 256K of level 2 cache and 2MB of level 3 cache, and 256MB RAM. Differentiating the two are a 80GB Ultra ATA hard drive in one - the 'Faster' model and two 36GB Ultra160 SCSI drives in the other, the 'Fastest'. ...more |
