Press fooled by dummy iPod phone

Media reports that pictures of the rumoured iPod phone have been leaked are causing red faces as the purported pictures are nothing more than a mock up. Reports in PDA France about a front cover picture of French title 20 Minutes magazine in, and some UK publications, are claiming that the pictures represent the final version of an iPod phone that will be launched by Apple at the forthcoming Apple Expo in Paris. Adobe, HP and Kodak endorse new image format

Adobe, Hewlett-Packard and Kodak have announced their endorsement for the new Exif file format for digital images. Currently digital cameras capture images as compressed JPEG files. Exif (Exchangeable Image File Format) adds a series of tags to the standard JPEG header that encodes information such as exposure time, contrast, white balance and colour saturation. ...more

Cisco incorporates antivirus technology into its software range

Cisco has broadened its relationship with antivirus experts Trend Micro, integrating its technology into Cisco's software products. Last November, an agreement was reached to incorporate the antivirus technology into Cisco's Network Admission Control, but this has now been extended to include all of Cisco's network infrastructure and security systems. 'While combating network worms, reinfections, vulnerabilities, and system damage, customers continue to suffer business disruption, so the demand for more sophisticated threat prevention methods increases,' said Steve Chang, CEO and founder of Trend Micro. ...more

Government bids for transparency online

New Government Web site tells whether promises are being met. The Web site contains information on the Public Service Agreement (PSA) targets that were announced in last year's Spending Review and allows the public to see how the government is performing against its targets. Chief Secretary to the Treasury, the Rt Hon Paul Boateng MP, said: 'The Government is firmly committed to accountability and transparency as one of the key principles of public service reform and this Web site marks a step change in the level of performance reporting by Government. ...more
