Mozilla makes money shock The open source organisation Mozilla Foundation has always been seen as a non-profit organisation getting by on the generosity of a few corporate sponsors and the unpaid work of hundreds of volunteers that work on its projects. Now, it seems Mozilla is entering the world of corporate profitability, and fairly lucrative it is too. That's according to Jason Calacanis the founder of Weblogs Inc. ...more More sacked for e-mail abuse Following on from the recent story concerning two men who lost their appeal of unfair dismissal over e-mail abuse, it has come to light that six more people from a different company have been dismissed. The former employees at the Birmingham sales office of Cable & Wireless were dismissed and six other staff were disciplined for sending offensive e-mail. But most companies won't realise their appetite for open source until at least next year, with just 18 per cent of businesses relying on Linux for such workloads by the end of 2007. ...more Linux certificate puts kernel developers in impossible position A patent expert has attacked the Open Source Community's latest initiative to document the provenance of code contributed to the Linux kernel so that proving its origins will be quicker and easier in the face of litigation. The Developer's Certificate of Origin 1.0 asserts that the developer submitting the code which it covers has either written or modified that code according to their rights to do so, or it is being submitted, unchanged, on behalf of someone else who asserts these rights. ...more |
