Pipex buys Freedom2Surf

Pipex has acquired fellow ISP Freedom2Surf in a deal worth ?10mn. The combination of both companies' user bases will make Pipex the fifth largest provider in the UK. Norwich sets UK broadband first

Norwich is to be the first UK city with its own dedicated high-speed broadband network. A system that will cover the city centre, business parks and Norwich Airport could be up and running in 2004. By using existing installations such as sewers, river beds and spare ducting, the project is expected to save some 60 to 70 per cent on schemes that involve digging up the roads, and is designed to provide small and medium-sized businesses - who might be put off by the high cost of leased lines - with affordable broadband access. ...more

Yahoo! details UK Panama rollout - Internet World 2007

Yahoo! has given more detail about the UK roll out of its Panama platform, for managing online search-related marketing campaigns. In a presentation entitled 'The future of search and search marketing' Yahoo!'s UK Regional Sales Director, Richard Firminger, outlined more details of the software that is crucial for Yahoo! to try and regain the initiative from Google and its rival AdWords programme. SanDisk demos 2GB Memory Stick PRO Storage Card

Flash memory supplier, SanDisk Corporation has announced a 2Gb SanDisk Memory Stick PRO, which is the world's highest highest capacity available in this format. Sandisk, which developed the memory stick alongside Sony, claims that Memory Stick PRO-enabled devices can capture and play back DVD-quality video in real time as well as store multiple hours of CD-quality music. The new cards are also said to have security features which prevent data from being lost or erased by accidentally removing the card while it is in use. ...more

Iomega has announced HotBurn, its new CD authoring software, claiming that in tests it 'performed faster than the industry leader for users of all experience levels'. HotBurn includes two-step music and data-CD creation, one-step duplication and multiple copying of a source CD, organised into a single interface screen. There is also a 'Best Of' feature that allows you to make compilation CDs without having to copy components from several CDs to your hard disk. ...more
