Amazon shuts up shop to close off pricing error. Online retailer Amazon temporarily shut down its UK operation this morning after a pricing error resulted in customers bulk buying HP iPaq handheld computers for as little as ?7. BT unbundles its millionth line

BT says it has now unbundled one million of its telephone lines for competitors to offer cheaper service. It describes this as a major milestone, reflecting the highly competitive state of UK broadband market. The former UK telecoms monopoly said its Openreach division, set up in January under a deal with regulator Ofcom intended to open up its network to rivals, was processing almost 30,000 unbundling requests each week. ...more

LLU reaches half a million

The UK now has more than half a million unbundled phone and Internet connections, according to BT Openreach. After a faltering start local loop unbundling is now proceeding at a rate of 20,00 lines a week, with customers attracted by cheaper and faster broadband connections and low price telephone calls, afforded to some extent by BT's recent wholesale price cuts.
