Nikon views market share for the D40 DSLR

Nikon has announced its low-end DSLR the D40; part of the company's bid to take a 40 per cent market share to give it a leadership position. The new camera will replace the existing D50 - of which there is a month's supply remaining - while broadening its appeal to families as well as creative enthusiasts. Internet research group Nielsen//NetRatings claims that in spite of continued use of file-sharing networks, record companies can console themselves that the preferred format on which to own music remains the CD. Gates announces timely watches

In his keynote speech at the opening of the 2003 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Bill Gates showed of the first fruit of Microsoft's SPOT platform: watches. The Smart Personal Objects Technology (SPOT) platform is designed to 'make everyday objects smarter and better at their core functions', according to Bill Mitchell, general manager of SPOT at Microsoft.
