Security flaw in Flash Player

Macromedia has released a 'critical' update for version 6 of its Flash Player, which, it says, is installed on 75 per cent of the world's content. The cumulative security patch, says Macromedia, 'addresses the potential for future exploits surrounding buffer overflows (read/write) and sandbox integrity within the player which might allow malicious users to gain access to a user's computer. Wanadoo's 8Mbit ads rile ASA

The Advertising Standards Authority has upheld several complaints about high-speed broadband claims made by Wanadoo in a series of TV and press advertisements that first appeared last October. Both rival ISPs and members of the public complained that the ads implied that services 'up to 8 Meg' were available to the majority of broadband users. BT, Tiscali and Bulldog noted that while the ads appeared nationwide Wanadoo was only enabling 8Mbps services in certain locations. ...more

Handspring bucks PDA trend

Handspring was the only major PDA manufacturer to increase its sales in the last fiscal quarter, as worldwide shipments of handhelds fell by nearly 10 per cent over the three-month period. Nvidia unveils technology to play back HD movies

Video chip developer Nvidia has unveiled its PureVideo HD technology at the Computex trade show in Taiwan. The company says that the new technology can support both HD DVD and Blu-ray movie playback on PCs.
