Thirteen arrested for downloading child pornography

Police raids throughout England and Scotland today have resulted in the arrest of 13 people. In what is thought to be the UK's largest operation of its kind, 13 police forces, co-ordinated by the Metropolitan Police Paedophile Unit, seized 27 computers and photographic, video and magazine material, in addition to the arrests. Parliament's Web presence needs radical upgrading say MPs

A parliamentary Select Committee has reported that Parliament's website needs 'radically upgrading'. In it's report, the Modernisation of the House of Commons Select Committee says: 'We are convinced of the need for a radical upgrading of the website at an early opportunity, which will require significant investment in systems and staff.' The Committee's brief was to look at all aspects of the workings of the Houses of Parliament in order to make them more accessible and relevant to British citizens in the 21st Century. ...more

EC decision on AOL/Time Warner merger goes to poll

The European Commission (EC), the body charged with reviewing the proposed merger of AOL and Time Warner, has decided to delay its decision and plans to poll experts from all 15 of its member countries first. The EC has until 24 October to reach a decision, but industry experts had predicted that a definite decision would be reached much earlier. The EC is also responsible for handling the Warner/Emi merger and a media report suggest that a ruling on both cases will be made at the next main EC meeting on 4 October. ...more
