Intel plans WiMAX cameras by 2009

Intel says we can expect to see WiMAX built into devices such as digital cameras and handheld games consoles as soon as 2009. At a London briefing this morning, the company outlined its roadmap for the long-range wireless technology, which it claims will complement existing Wi-Fi and 3G services. Adobe gets all clear for Macromedia buy

Adobe's proposed acquisition of fellow media software company Macromedia appears certain to go ahead after it was approved by US authorities. The decision by the Department of Justice to clear the buy out means that, a few European issues aside, it should go ahead as planned before then end of the year. Shareholders overwhelmingly approved the deal in August, leaving the DoJ as the last major obstacle to be cleared. ...more

Broadband is letting technology down, says Gates

Bill Gates said on Wednesday that broadband Internet access was the Achilles heel of the technology revolution. Speaking at Microsoft's CEO summit, attended by top technology leaders, Gates said that broadband wasn't cheap enough to gain acceptance quickly. "There is no hardware limitation that will affect what you want to do, but there is one exception and that is the cost of broadband communication, primarily to the home," said Gates. ...more

McAfee gets lucky with security fix

McAfee has fixed a serious security hole in its software by accident. According to security specialists eEye Digital, McAfee's ePolicy Orchestrator for monitoring and administrating McAfee's enterprise software products was flawed with a vulnerability in its Framework Service component. The flaw, if successfully exploited, would allow an attacker to use the system so that rather then send out configuration changes to a specific file on the client software, any code could be sent out and written anywhere on the target systems. ...more
