Phoenix adds security at the hardware level

The major BIOS developer, Phoenix Technologies has unveiled its first product based on its new extensible Core System Software (CSS). The new technology has been built with security in mind and offers embedded security features that protect the core system software from malicious attack and a security API. VeriSign in dispute with China over Web addresses

American corporation takes on communist China's government. It's not yet a doomsday scenario, however, as the dispute concerns the Web-based registration of Chinese domain names. HP unveils new blade range

HP has announced a new 'c-Class' of blade servers that, the company says, tackles the main problem areas of energy consumption and heat emission and system complexity and management. The aim being to cut costs in the data management department while providing increased adaptability as the business expands. Apple's Cube team disbanded

Despite a price drop and the addition of a CD-RW drive, poor sales of the Power Mac G4 Cube are starting to take their toll. Apple's Cube development team has been dissolved, and Apple has been forced to buy back some $3.5 million-worth of Cubes from a major US retailer. ...more

Microsoft fixes IE iFrame flaw

Microsoft has released a security update to fix the iFrame flaw discovered last month and exploited a week later by the Bofra/MyDoom virus. The update is described as crtical as it fixes a hole in Internet Explorer which would allow an attacker to take control of a computer if the user is logged in with administrator privileges and clicks on a specially crafted link.
