AirPort security issues addressed

The Standards Working Group for the IEEE 802.11 WEP standard used by Apple's AirPort wireless network system has replied to accusations that the technology could allow unauthorized access to, and eavesdropping on, computer networks. Those of the Pocket PC platform persuasion will have the opportunity - as owners of a Compaq iPAQ - to freely upgrade to the XP influenced Pocket PC 2002. The Flash ROM updates apply to any iPAQ Pocket PC - the H3600 series or the H3100 series - bought between 6 September and 30 November 2001. Revenues up but Novell stays in the red

Novell has reported stronger than expected revenues for its fourth quarter financial results. Its $320m in revenues was up from last year's $301m, and beat analyst expectations of just north of $300.39m. ...more

Animal rights group condemns 'rampant' eBay ivory trade

The elephant, the world's largest land mammal, is being threatened with global extinction by a 'rampant trade' in ivory on the eBay online auction site, animal welfare campaigners said on Tuesday. The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) said it had conducted a survey in the UK, Australia, China, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Canada and the US and tracked more than 2,200 elephant ivory items listed on eBay websites. Fury at failed Vista upgrades

Angry PC owners are turning on Microsoft after their upgrade vouchers for Windows Vista were deemed ineligible. Customers who bought OEM versions of Windows XP, complete with an upgrade voucher for Vista, are being told they don't qualify for the upgrade unless the operating system was installed on a brand new machine by a system builder. One such customer is analyst and PC Pro reader Mark Brookes, who bought an OEM version of Windows XP Pro from an online retailer. ...more
