Apple starts taking payments for AppleTV

Apple has finally started to charge the credit cards of those who have pre-ordered the Apple TV media networking device. Discussions on its support forums indicate that this is usually the last thing to happen before the company starts to ship a new product. A strategic alliance has been announced between media specialists Iomega and SONICblue, which markets the RIO range of portable MP3 players. The deal means that Iomega's existing PocketZip drive technology will be a feature of new SONICblue products. Carphone Warehouse is about to offer free broadband with its TalkTalk landline telephone service, according to reports by several UK national newspapers and TV stations. The company's Internet ambitions are no secret, since it began investing in local loop unbundling (LLU) - installing its own broadband kit in BT exchanges - last October.
