PalmSource gathers developers for open-source migration PalmSource has begun the process of moving its future development onto a Linux platform, following the news last week that the handheld OS maker was considering an open source approach. At the company's developer conference in the US, it said that on the whole the process should be transparent to users, with the interface and core PIM applications remaining unchanged, while existing 'properly written' applications will continue to run. The 846 is for heavy-duty eight- or four-way server systems, such as those handling large-scale databases and mission-critical enterprise applications. The 146, by contrast, is aimed at workstations for memory-intensive applications such as multimedia content creation and engineering design packages. ...more IE7 beta is the bait for Grum malware Despite the full version of IE7 being released last October, hackers are trying to deceive users to download malware posing as a beta version of Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7. Emails delivered to unsuspecting users pretend to come from admin@microsoft.com with a subject line such as 'Internet Explorer 7 Downloads'. ...more Burn a national flag - online! Chinese authorities are taking a dim view of a website that encourages surfers to burn the national flag - virtually! The website is in Chinese but attacks Beijing as a "bloody regime" and asks participants to "burn down the symbol of an evil power". A link then takes you to a picture of the Chinese flag desecrated with a Nazi symbol and a political message that invites the viewer to "overthrow the dictatorship." As you can imagine, it is an offence in China to burn or mutilate the national flag and the authorities are desperate to catch the culprits. ...more |
