Quark 6 demos released

Quark has made demo versions of QuarkXPress 6, its market leading DTP application, available for download. Among the software's new features are collaborative working on the same document, new Web layout tools, direct PDF export, multiple undos and full-resolution previews. The folowing limitations apply to the demos: all output will have 'QuarkXPress Demo' printed on it; printouts are limited to a maximum of five pages; Mac demos can only print to a PostScript printer; the Save, Save as, Save Page as EPS, New Library and Collect for Output commands are disabled;all Web document previews will have a 'QuarkXPress Demo' watermark embedded in all pictures; the Export HTML function is disabled; and limited language support (online demo only). ...more

Free Software Foundation blasts Microsoft

Microsoft's proposals to settle its dispute with the EU is a threat to Samba, according to the European arm of the Free Software Foundation. The company has, so far, refused to allow its interoperability information to be used to create Open Source software. Earlier this week Microsoft revealed that it had written to the European Commission with what Steve Ballmer called 'serious concessions' in order to settle the dispute which arose following the March 2004 antitrust ruling by the European Commission. ...more

iConcertCal adds concert dates to iTunes

iTunes users can now get instant information about local concerts by artists in their music collections with a new visualiser plug-in. iConcertCal scans the music collection and then searches the Web for matching concerts within a pre-defined area.
